Just weekend use. The Li batteries that can be used with this saw give it its power and I couldn’t image using the older nicads. The little light makes cuts easier to line up with your marks. Overall it does its job for cuts that you don’t want to drag out the corded saw or are too inept to operate a hand saw. I’m using it to cut installed siding in awkward positions but find it comes in useful when you need that 2x cut quickly. I plan to also use it to cut sheet goods – we’ll see if I can get the tilt alignment dialed in. The guard and stamped metal frame instill little confidence in its durability and it doesn’t match the quality of Hitachi’s 18V drill/drivers. I got this saw to fill out my reconditioned 18V set. Overall, no problems with this saw but again its not used every day and no precision work at this point.

I already had the Hitachi Lithium Ion Drill which I love and which came with two batteries. I was in the market for a circular saw, so I thought I would check this one out. For my purposes, two batteries are plenty for the two tools, so I didn’t mind that it came bare bones. I haven’t pushed the saw too hard yet, but so far I have been very happy with it. It’s lightweight and it’s accurate. I also appreciate the fact that it’s cordless – it’s my first time owning a cordless circular saw, and it’s been more convenient than I anticipated. I highly recommend it.

I bought this after reading a review of battery powered tools in Consumer Reports. This was the top rated 18v drill as well as the only circular saw that they recommended. I previously had a Skill brand circular saw and it did pretty well but this one is amazing. I recently had to replace the floor on a deck because of rotting. I used this saw all day on pressure treated 2X6 lumber. Not only did it cut like butter, but I had to rip a 16 ft piece at the end of the day and it performed well.

I had not used Hitachi because of the weird look previously but with Consumer Reports recommendation and my experience, I give it two thumbs up.

Oh yes, it works great if you are left handed as I am. It has a safety button that can be depressed using either hand.

First off, NO “bog down” when ripping 2 x 10 x 12’s. I’m adding to the length of my deck and this baby has been used. I’ve made multiple rips on 2×10x12’s and 6×6 treated posts AND using a drill concrete mixer attachment to mix concrete for footings ALL WITH ONE BATTERY (3 AMP HR LITHIUM-ION BATTERY THAT IS)!

A friend of mine that is a handyman by trade came by and was seriously impressed with how many rips we were making on the 2×10’s when he was there. We cut (12) 2×10’s with no problem. At first, when I told him about the Hitachi’s ability to do all of this on one battery, he had that “yea right’ look on his face. He’s a corded guy.

The hitachi circular saw changed his mind! Now keep in mind, the blade is only 6.5. BUT, it cut through the 6×6 treated post easily (cut 4 pieces), then used a hand saw to cut through the middle (easy).

Don’t know how it does with the 1.5 amp hr battery. Probably not as good. The charger takes about 45 minutes to recharge a battery right after it has been in use. I’ve got two and I’ve never run out of juice in the replacement while the other was charging. Haven’t even worried about it…

Just-right size and power. This saw lives up to my expectations in all ways. I use it to cut sheet goods into manageable pieces prior to table-sawing them. This includes 3/4″ plywood, which yields easily to the carbide toothed blade. What I like most is the extreme light weight as compared to my full size circ saw. Not having to deal with a cord is, of course, very nice. The cut quality in plywood and dimensional lumber is excellent.

My guess is that this isn’t the saw for full-time carpentry, but it is perfect for my use. If you have any other Hitachi 18V tools, then adding this saw to your toolbox is an easy choice.
